My daughter will pursue a 220-hour post-secondary program. Is she eligible to receive her EAPs?

OUR ANSWER

Under the Income Tax Act (Canada), the minimum requirements to receive educational assistance payments (EAPs) are as follows:

  • be enrolled in a qualifying educational program, which is a post-secondary program that lasts at least three consecutive weeks, and requires a student spend a minimum of 10 hours per week on courses or school work.
  • be at least 16 years old and enrolled in a specified educational program, which is a post-secondary program that lasts at least three consecutive weeks, and requires a student spend a minimum of 12 hours per month on courses or school work.

Your daughter is therefore eligible to receive EAPs if her program meets either of the above requirements!
