In investing, as in many other aspects of life, nothing is free: fees may apply.

But what about your Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)?

1. Fees

For Kaleido’s IDEO+ individual portfolios, the fees charged are mainly management fees. These fees are calculated on the basis of an annual percentage of your portfolio’s assets and are used, for example, to compensate your advisor for the support they provide, or for various services related to the administration of your plan. This includes managing communications, producing reports sent to you, updating technological tools, maintaining the website and securing your Client Space.

These fees also include portfolio management costs. In fact, your investments are entrusted to managers external to Kaleido: professional equity and/or bond management firms, who must obviously be compensated for their work.

It is important to note that the total fees charged to you are around 2%,1 a fairly standard rate in the financial industry for professionally managed solutions. This rate is comparable to that of mutual funds you might hold for your RRSP or TFSA, for example.

2. Taxes and other charges

As with many other products and services, taxes (QST and GST) are added to management fees. What’s more, like other financial institutions, Kaleido may charge fixed fees in the event of bounced cheques or transfers to other institutions, for example. All information on fees and returns is available on the Kaleido website, in the “Financial Documents” section.

In conclusion

Remember that the fees collected are not intended for distribution as dividends to shareholders. In keeping with our mission, they are reinvested in customer service and support, enabling Kaleido to fulfill its mission: to help our children reach their full potential.
